Introduction

THE BOOK OF JUDGES

The Book of Judges is one of the most poignant and distressing books in the canon. We learn that many of the heroes of the faith called out from this book, are more broken than we thought, and their stories are less admirable than we have given them credit. That may be the point. The only truly faithful one is the LORD Himself. Falling directly after Joshua’s taking of the Promised Land, this book reveals two simultaneous truths. The tribes of Israel are on a downward spiral away from the LORD who saved them, and that same LORD will stop at nothing to shepherd even the most rebellious heart to accomplish His purposes. He will deliver Israel.
